A classic silhouette meets timeless craft in our Handwoven Sambalpuri Cotton Nehru Jacket, where cultural legacy is stitched into every seam. Crafted from authentic Sambalpuri Ikat fabric, this jacket is not just a piece of clothing—it’s a proud expression of Odisha’s celebrated textile tradition.

Woven by skilled artisans using the ancient Bandha (Ikat) technique, each strand of cotton is carefully tie-dyed before it’s handwoven, resulting in stunning geometric or temple-inspired motifs that are mirrored on both sides of the fabric. The result is a jacket that feels as meaningful as it looks—deeply rooted in heritage yet effortlessly contemporary.

Featuring a tailored fit, mandarin collar, full lining, and smart buttons, this Nehru jacket brings versatility to your wardrobe. Whether layered over a kurta for festive occasions or styled with a shirt for a fusion look, it carries the subtle statement of slow-made elegance.

This isn’t machine-spun fashion. It’s conscious clothing, crafted patiently by hand, supporting artisan communities and reviving India’s proud weaving traditions—one stitch at a time.

Because when you wear Sambalpuri, you don’t just wear a jacket.
You wear a story.

STORY BEHIND THIS CRAFT

The Sambalpuri fabric is a time-honoured treasure from the heart of Western Odisha, particularly from weaving communities in Bargarh, Sonepur, and Sambalpur. Known globally for its unique Ikat technique—locally referred to as Bandha—this craft is not printed but dyed into the yarns before they are even woven. The result? A reversible, colour-fast fabric with intricate geometric and symbolic motifs that tell stories of tradition, symmetry, and spiritual harmony.

This technique dates back several centuries and has been passed down through generations of master weavers who use manual looms and natural or azo-free dyes. Each metre of Sambalpuri cotton requires days of preparation—from mapping the design and tying the yarns to multiple rounds of dyeing and careful weaving. No machines. No shortcuts. Just time, patience, and heritage in every thread.

The Nehru jacket, on the other hand, is a relatively modern Indian silhouette made iconic by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who favoured the mandarin-collared vest as a symbol of elegance and nationalism. When paired with handwoven Sambalpuri cotton, the result is a garment that bridges modern style with artisanal legacy.

Dry Clean Recommended | For best results and to preserve the structure and intricate weave, professional dry cleaning is advised.

Iron Inside Out | Use a medium heat setting and iron the jacket inside out to protect the natural dyes and fabric texture.

Avoid Machine Wash | Handwoven fabric can lose shape and vibrancy in machine cycles—avoid machine washing altogether.

Spot Clean if Needed | For minor stains, gently spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not rub harshly.

Store Flat or on Hanger | Keep it on a padded hanger to retain its shape or fold carefully; store in a dry, cool space.

Keep Away from Direct Sunlight | Prolonged sun exposure may fade the natural dyes—air dry in the shade when necessary.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals | Do not bleach or use strong stain removers, as they may weaken the handwoven fibres.

Handle with Respect | This is a slow-crafted piece—treat it gently to enjoy its beauty and longevity for years to come.
