About this Creation
In the heart of Odisha, skilled artisans weave not just sarees but stories of heritage and craftsmanship. Each Sambalpuri Cotton Saree is a masterpiece, created using the intricate Ikat (Bandha) technique, where threads are dyed before weaving, ensuring patterns that remain vibrant for years.
Made from pure cotton, these sarees are lightweight, breathable, and effortlessly elegant, perfect for any occasion. The motifs on a Sambalpuri saree are more than just designs—they carry deep cultural significance. Floral patterns symbolize prosperity, temple borders pay homage to Odisha’s architectural marvels, and geometric designs reflect the balance of life. These elements are woven by skilled hands in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, and beyond, preserving a tradition that has flourished for centuries.
Sourced directly from weavers, our sarees guarantee authenticity, sustainability, and ethical craftsmanship. When you wear a Sambalpuri saree, you embrace a piece of history while supporting generations of artisans.

STORY BEHIND THIS CRAFT
The history of Sambalpuri Ikat dates back over a thousand years, believed to have been introduced by the Bhulia community, who migrated to Odisha in the 12th century. The word "Ikat" comes from a resist-dyeing technique where the yarn is tied and dyed in sections before weaving, creating striking patterns with unmatched precision. Unlike printed fabrics, these designs are woven into the fabric itself, ensuring long-lasting vibrancy and depth.
Sambalpuri textiles hold a deep cultural and spiritual connection to Odisha’s traditions. The motifs—such as shankha (conch shells), chakra (wheels), phula (flowers), and temple borders—draw inspiration from Jagannath culture, tribal folklore, and the state’s rich architectural heritage. The sarees are often worn during religious festivals, weddings, and significant life events, symbolizing grace, prosperity, and artistic finesse.
CRAFTSMANSHIP & THE WEAVING PROCESS
Each Sambalpuri Cotton Saree is entirely handwoven on traditional looms, taking weeks or even months to complete. The process involves:
- Tying & Dyeing – Artisans carefully tie sections of the yarn and dye them multiple times to achieve the intricate Ikat patterns.
- Precision Weaving – The dyed yarns are then handwoven with incredible accuracy to align the pre-dyed motifs perfectly.
- Finishing Touches – After weaving, the saree undergoes washing, drying, and final checks to ensure durability and softness.
This meticulous craftsmanship makes every Sambalpuri saree one-of-a-kind, reflecting the artisan’s patience, skill, and devotion.
Recognized for its authenticity, Sambalpuri Handloom Sarees hold the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag, ensuring their uniqueness and origin. The craft continues to thrive through government initiatives, artisan cooperatives, and the growing global appreciation for handloom textiles and sustainable fashion. By choosing a Sambalpuri saree, you support ethical craftsmanship, rural livelihoods, and the rich textile heritage of Odisha.
Care Guide
Care Guide
Dust Gently| Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a gentle brush to regularly remove surface dust without scratching the metal.
Avoid Harsh Cleaners| Do not use chemical-based or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the natural finish and patina of the brass.
Wipe Occasionally| For occasional deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth. Wipe gently and ensure the piece is thoroughly dried afterward.
Do Not Soak| Never immerse Dhokra jewellery in water, as moisture can lead to tarnishing or affect the structure over time.
Keep Away from Moisture| Store and display in a dry indoor space. Excess humidity can accelerate oxidation and dull the brass finish.
Polishing (Optional)| To maintain a bright brass look, gently polish with a soft cloth and a natural brass cleaner. To preserve its antique patina, avoid polishing.
Handle with Care| Though durable, Dhokra pieces are handcrafted and can have delicate elements. Handle with care to avoid bending or breakage.
Store Safely| When not in use, wrap in a soft cloth and store in a dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
