Historically, this craft was used to create elaborate canopies, ceremonial umbrellas, and chariot decorations for the famous Rath Yatra festival.
The craft found its true home in the artisan village of Pipili, where generations of skilled craftspeople have kept this tradition alive. Using hand-cut fabric pieces, artisans stitch vibrant motifs—such as elephants, flowers, peacocks, and geometric patterns—onto a contrasting base fabric, creating designs that are as meaningful as they are beautiful.
