STORY BEHIND THIS CRAFT

Born from India’s Swadeshi movement and Gandhi’s vision of self-reliance, Khadi has always been more than just cloth—it’s a statement of independence, ethics, and pride. While traditional Khadi remains deeply rooted in history, its modern cousin, Poly-Khadi, offers a contemporary take on heritage. Blending 67% hand-spun Khadi cotton with 33% polyester, it combines the best of both worlds—natural breathability with improved structure and ease of care.

Here’s how your Poly-Khadi Shirt is made:

1. Cotton Ginning & Blending
Raw cotton is carefully cleaned and prepared for spinning. It is then blended with polyester fibre in just the right proportion—enough to retain Khadi’s organic feel while improving strength and resilience.

2. Hand Spinning on Charkha
The cotton-polyester blend is hand-spun using a traditional charkha (spinning wheel). This step preserves the Khadi legacy, giving the fabric its signature texture and breathability.

3. Yarn Washing & Dyeing
The spun yarn is gently washed, then dyed using azo-free, eco-friendly dyes. This helps maintain the fabric’s environmental integrity and skin-friendliness.

4. Hand Weaving on Traditional Looms
The dyed yarn is handwoven by skilled rural artisans using age-old wooden looms. Each metre of fabric takes time, care, and craftsmanship—resulting in a texture that feels organic and looks effortlessly elegant.

5. Tailoring & Finishing
Once woven, the fabric is cut and stitched into shirts by trained tailors, with attention to fit, comfort, and finish. Buttons made of coconut shell or wood often complete the natural appeal.

The end result is a shirt that honours India’s weaving traditions while embracing functionality. It’s lightweight, breathable, gently structured, and thoughtfully made—from artisan hand to your wardrobe.

Hand Wash Separately | Gently hand wash in cold water to maintain the integrity of the hand-spun yarn and natural dyes.

Use Mild Detergent | Opt for a mild, eco-friendly detergent. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may damage the fibres.

Do Not Soak for Long | Khadi is absorbent—avoid soaking for extended periods to prevent colour bleeding or fabric stress.

Dry in Shade | After washing, hang or lay flat to dry in a shaded area. Direct sunlight may cause natural dyes to fade over time.

Iron on Low Heat | Iron the shirt while slightly damp using a low heat setting. For best results, place a thin cloth over it while ironing.

Avoid Machine Wash | Machine agitation can weaken the handwoven threads and distort the weave.

Store Flat or on Hangers | Store in a dry place. If folded, refold occasionally to avoid permanent creases on the fabric.

Celebrate the Wrinkles | Khadi’s natural creases are a mark of its authenticity—iron if needed, but let it breathe as it is.
