Our Hand-Painted Fabric Table Lamp with Pattachitra Art is more than just functional lighting—it’s a luminous expression of India’s folk heritage, meticulously handcrafted by master artisans of Odisha.

This unique table lamp is wrapped in finely painted fabric, showcasing the revered Pattachitra art form, one of the oldest and most detailed painting traditions in India. Characterized by intricate lines, mythological themes, and bold natural colors, each artwork tells a story—from the divine presence of Lord Jagannath to elegant depictions of Radha-Krishna, Ganesha, or scenes from the epics or simply floral artforms.

What makes this lamp truly special is the authenticity of its craftsmanship. Every motif is painted by hand—no prints, no shortcuts—just generations-old techniques passed down through Odisha’s chitrakar families, who view this art not just as a skill, but as sacred practice. Painted on high-quality fabric and fitted to a sturdy table lamp frame, the result is a glowing piece of culture that brings warmth, character, and storytelling into your space.

These are not factory-made reproductions. Each lamp is a one-of-a-kind work of art, slow-crafted over days with patience and devotion. When lit, the lamp casts a soft ambient glow that enhances the richness of the hand-painted details, making it an ideal accent for bedrooms, living rooms, studies, or meditation corners.

Whether you're curating a soulful home, seeking functional art, or gifting heritage with purpose, this handcrafted Pattachitra table lamp from Odisha is a radiant blend of tradition, art, and elegance.

STORY BEHIND THIS CRAFT

The art of Pattachitra is one of the oldest and most revered painting traditions in India, flourishing for over a thousand years in the culturally rich state of Odisha. The word "Pattachitra" comes from the Sanskrit words patta (cloth) and chitra (picture), literally meaning “picture on cloth.” Traditionally used to depict scenes from Hindu mythology, folklore, and temple rituals, this sacred art was closely tied to the Jagannath Temple in Puri, where it was used to narrate stories of deities through scrolls, palm leaves, and murals.

Pattachitra is known for its intricate detailing, natural pigments, bold linework, and mythological storytelling. Every element—from floral borders to divine figures—is painted entirely by hand, using brushes made from fine animal hair and colors derived from natural sources like minerals, seeds, and stones.

In recent years, this ancient art has been lovingly adapted to functional décor, such as hand-painted fabric table lamps, while preserving its traditional roots. Artisans paint directly onto fabric shades, transforming them into glowing canvases of cultural storytelling. These lamps retain the spirit of the original Pattachitra scrolls, now reimagined for modern interiors.

Dust Gently | Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or feather duster to remove dust from the fabric shade and base without damaging the hand-painted design.

Avoid Harsh Cleaners | Do not use bleach, chemical sprays, or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the paint and fabric surface.

Wipe Carefully | For light cleaning, use a barely damp cloth to gently dab the surface—never rub or scrub the painted areas.

Do Not Soak | Never immerse the lamp or its shade in water. Moisture can cause paint to bleed and weaken the structure.

Keep Away from Moisture | Store and use the lamp in dry indoor spaces. High humidity may affect the fabric and painted surface over time.

Handle with Care | The lamp is a delicate handcrafted item. Avoid dropping, denting, or placing heavy objects on the shade.

Store Safely | When not in use, cover with a soft cloth and store in a dry place, away from dust, heat, or direct pressure.

Avoid Direct Sunlight | Extended exposure to strong sunlight may cause fading of the hand-painted artwork and fabric discoloration.
