Protect your surfaces, but make it art. Our Handcrafted Wooden Coaster with Pattachitra Painting isn’t just here to save your table from tea stains—it’s here to steal the show while doing it gracefully.

Carefully crafted by artisans from Odisha, this coaster is made of solid wood, topped with fabric, and hand-painted in the iconic Pattachitra style—an ancient Indian art form known for its intricate lines, mythological themes, and vibrant natural colours. It’s not mass-produced or digitally printed; it’s the real deal—brush-to-fabric storytelling, painted stroke by stroke.

Whether you’re sipping masala chai, serving guests, or just showing off your impeccable taste in homeware, this coaster makes a bold little statement: "Yes, I care about both art and furniture." And with its soft fabric top and sturdy wooden base, it brings both texture and durability to the table—literally.

These coasters are more than just functional—they’re conversation starters, cultural ambassadors, and a great excuse to finally stop using old magazine pages as makeshift cup mats (we’ve all been there).

Add them to your home, gift them to someone thoughtful, or simply start a collection—because tradition never goes out of style, especially when it doubles as drinkware support.

STORY BEHIND THIS CRAFT

The tradition of Pattachitra painting dates back over a thousand years in the culturally rich state of Odisha, believed to have originated in the 12th century to narrate tales of Lord Jagannath and Hindu epics through intricate, scroll-style artwork. Traditionally painted on dried palm leaves, cloth, or dried canvas (patta), these artworks were once devotional offerings used in temples and rituals.

Today, while the tools and themes remain rooted in heritage, the canvas has evolved. Enter: the humble wooden coaster—a modern, practical surface for showcasing this revered art form in everyday life.

In this beautifully adapted version, handwoven fabric is first affixed onto a wooden base, creating a textured surface. Then, trained artisans—often from the same families who have preserved Pattachitra for generations—painstakingly paint miniature, freehand motifs using natural colours and ultra-fine brushes made from date-palm fibres or mouse hair.

This fusion of functionality and heritage not only keeps the art alive but also provides meaningful income to artisan communities. It’s a brilliant example of how tradition can meet the modern world without losing its soul.

So when you set your cup on this coaster, you're not just protecting your table—you’re supporting centuries of storytelling, sustainability, and artistic pride from Odisha.

Dust Gently | Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove surface dust without disturbing the painted artwork or fabric texture.

Avoid Moisture Exposure | Keep away from water or damp surfaces. The fabric and natural paint are not waterproof and may fade or warp if exposed to moisture.

Spot Clean Only | If needed, lightly dab with a barely damp cloth. Do not rub, soak, or use any cleaning chemicals or sprays.

Do Not Scrub | Abrasive materials can damage both the paint and the fabric cover. Treat gently to preserve its hand-painted beauty.

Keep Away from Heat and Sunlight | Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high heat can cause the colours to fade and the fabric to loosen.

Handle with Clean, Dry Hands | Oils and moisture from hands can transfer to the surface and affect the painting over time.

Store Carefully | When not in use, store flat in a cool, dry place. If stacking, place a soft cloth or paper between coasters to avoid friction damage.

Celebrate Its Character | Slight irregularities are signs of a genuine handcrafted item—each coaster is one of a kind, and with proper care, will stay beautiful for years.
